How to Set Up Your Own FAQ with Docusaurus and MCP

Build a professional documentation site in minutes, then let Claude AI write and manage your content through the Model Context Protocol (MCP).

What You Will Build

By the end of this guide you will have:

  • A Docusaurus documentation site running on your Yundera server
  • Docusaurus MCP connected so Claude can read, write, search, and rebuild your docs
  • Your first FAQ page published and live

Prerequisites

  • A Yundera Personal Cloud Server (PCS)
  • Access to Claude or Claude Code CLI

Step 1: Install Docusaurus on Yundera

  1. Open your Yundera dashboard
  2. Go to the App Store
  3. Find Docusaurus and click Install
  4. Wait for the initialization to complete. This creates a fresh Docusaurus project with the classic template.

Your docs site is now live at https://docusaurus-<your-domain>.

tip

The first install takes a minute because it runs npx create-docusaurus and builds the site. Subsequent restarts are fast.

Step 2: Connect Docusaurus MCP

Docusaurus MCP is automatically included with the Docusaurus app. It exposes your docs folder to Claude through the Model Context Protocol.

Option A: Claude.ai (Beacon)

If your server has Beacon configured, Docusaurus MCP is auto-discovered. Just open Claude.ai and it will appear in your available tools.

Option B: Claude Code CLI

Add the MCP server manually:

claude mcp add docusaurus-mcp \
--transport http \
"https://beacon-<your-server>.nsl.sh/mcp?hash=<your-hash>"

Start a new Claude Code session and verify with /mcp. You should see docusaurus-mcp listed.

Step 3: Learn the 5 MCP Tools

Docusaurus MCP provides five tools that Claude can use:

ToolWhat it does
list_docsLists all .md and .mdx files in your docs folder with path, size, and last modified date
read_docReads the full content of a specific doc file
write_docCreates or overwrites a doc file (parent directories are created automatically)
search_docsCase-insensitive full-text search across all docs
rebuildRuns npm run build and copies output to the web server. Your changes go live immediately
info

All paths are relative to the docs/ directory. For example, guides/my-guide.md refers to docs/guides/my-guide.md in the Docusaurus project.

Step 4: Write Your First FAQ

Now ask Claude to create your first FAQ page. You can simply say:

"Create an FAQ page for my project. Include questions about getting started, pricing, and troubleshooting."

Claude will use write_doc to create the file, then rebuild to publish it.

Example: Manual Approach

If you prefer to be specific, ask Claude:

"Use docusaurus-mcp to write a file at faq/general.md with the following content, then rebuild the site."

Claude will:

  1. Call write_doc("faq/general.md", "...") to create the file
  2. Call rebuild() to build and deploy

Example FAQ Content

Here is an example of what Claude might generate:

---
title: General FAQ
sidebar_label: General
sidebar_position: 1
---

# General FAQ

## What is this project?

A brief description of your project and what it does.

## How do I get started?

1. Sign up at our website
2. Follow the getting started guide
3. Join our community for help

## Is there a free plan?

Yes! We offer a free tier that includes...

Step 5: SEO Best Practices

Every doc page should include frontmatter for search engine optimization:

---
title: "Your Page Title"
description: "A 150-160 character description for Google search results"
keywords:
- keyword1
- keyword2
- keyword3
image: /img/yundera-social-card.png
---

Why This Matters

  • title: Appears in browser tabs and Google results
  • description: Shown as the snippet under the title in search results
  • keywords: Helps search engines understand your content
  • image: Social media preview when someone shares your link
Ask Claude for Help

You can ask Claude: "Review all my docs and add SEO frontmatter to any pages that are missing it." Claude will use list_docs and read_doc to check every file, then write_doc to add the missing metadata.

Step 6: Organize Your Docs

Docusaurus uses the folder structure inside docs/ to create the sidebar navigation:

docs/
intro.md
getting-started/
what-is-a-pcs.md
how-it-works.md
guides/
installing-apps.md
custom-domain.md
faq/
general.md
troubleshooting.md
reference/
glossary.md

Use sidebar_position in frontmatter to control the order:

---
sidebar_position: 1
---

Lower numbers appear first.

Ask Claude to Reorganize

You can ask Claude to restructure your docs:

"List all my docs and suggest a better folder structure. Then move the files."

Claude will use list_docs to see the current layout, propose changes, and use write_doc to create files in the new locations.

What is Next?

Now that your FAQ site is running and MCP is connected, you can:

  • Add more content: Just tell Claude what to write
  • Customize the theme: Edit the CSS in your Docusaurus src/css/custom.css
  • Set up a custom domain: See our Custom Domain guide
  • Search your docs: Ask Claude to find specific content across all pages
The Power of MCP

With Docusaurus MCP, your documentation is never more than a conversation away. Need to update a page? Just ask. Want to add a whole new section? Describe it and Claude handles the rest -- writing the content, organizing the files, and rebuilding the site.
