Geo-Targeting & Internationalization

Docusaurus supports geographic targeting and multi-language content out of the box. This guide covers how these features work in your Yundera documentation site.

Geo meta tags

The site includes geo meta tags that help search engines understand geographic relevance:

<meta name="geo.region" content="FR">
<meta name="geo.placename" content="France">

These are configured in docusaurus.config.js under themeConfig.metadata.

Customizing for your region

To target a different region, update the values in your config:

metadata: [
{ name: 'geo.region', content: 'US' }, // ISO 3166-1 country code
{ name: 'geo.placename', content: 'United States' },
],

Common region codes: FR (France), US (United States), DE (Germany), KR (South Korea), JP (Japan).

Multi-language support (i18n)

Docusaurus has built-in i18n support. The current configuration uses English only:

i18n: {
defaultLocale: 'en',
locales: ['en'],
},

Adding a new language

  1. Update the config to include the new locale:
i18n: {
defaultLocale: 'en',
locales: ['en', 'fr', 'ko'],
localeConfigs: {
en: { label: 'English', htmlLang: 'en-US' },
fr: { label: 'Français', htmlLang: 'fr-FR' },
ko: { label: '한국어', htmlLang: 'ko-KR' },
},
},
  1. Create translation files using the Docusaurus CLI:
npx docusaurus write-translations --locale fr
  1. Translate docs by creating locale-specific copies:
i18n/
fr/
docusaurus-plugin-content-docs/
current/
intro.md
getting-started/
...
  1. Build the multi-language site:
npm run build

Docusaurus automatically generates:

  • Language switcher in the navbar
  • hreflang tags for SEO
  • Separate sitemaps per locale
  • Locale-specific URLs (/fr/docs/, /ko/docs/)

How this helps SEO

  • hreflang tags tell Google which language version to show in each region
  • Geo meta tags signal the primary geographic audience
  • Locale-specific sitemaps ensure all language versions are indexed
  • content-language meta tag declares the page language for crawlers

Yundera App Store translations

The App Store itself supports translations for app descriptions in docker-compose.yml:

x-casaos:
description:
en_us: English description
fr_fr: Description en français
ko_kr: 한국어 설명

This is separate from Docusaurus i18n but follows the same principle.
